Omaha Hi/Low poker is considered the off spring of Texas Holdem. Just as easy to learn and equally entertaining. Although, not as popular as Holdem, Omaha is hot on the tracks of its parent. More and more people are visiting online casinos to try their luck at this exciting version of poker.
Structure and Rules
The dealer button identifying one player as the dealer. The button moves clockwise around the table. All bets must be in the pot before any cards are dealt. This includes all antes and blinds. So, the player to the left of the dealer posts the small blind. The player two spots to the left, posts the big blind. After the bets, players receive four hole cards placed face down. The betting begins with the player to the left of the big blind, also known as under the gun. Once the betting is complete in first round, three of the community cards are dealt and are placed face up. Then a second round of betting is done, beginning with the player in the small blind. This is known as the Flop or Third Street. Once all betting is done on the flop, one of the community cards is dealt face up, and all players can use it. A third round of betting begins with the player in the small blind. This is known as the Turn or Fourth Street. After betting is complete the final community card is dealt face up. Now the fourth and final betting takes place, with the player in the small blind. This is known as the River or Fifth Street. When all betting is done on the river, any players who remain must show down their hand. Remaining players then compare their five-card poker hand and the player with the highest hand is given the pot.
Aka Omaha 8
With Omaha Hi-Lo, all the same game rules apply, but with one major difference. Players can win by aiming to make their cards high or low. If by chance a player shows a winning high hand, while another shows a winning low hand, they split the pot. For a player to win the entire pot, he must have the best low and the best high. Or, there is no low hand in play.
Over all, its fair to say, Omaha is pretty flexible in the Poker world. You can play with two to ten players and there are plenty of online casinos, which offer free play to get you started.
